What are the benefits of the CAT?

The CAT can provide a structure to the way in which people with COPD communicate with those responsible for treating them, helping them to express fully the impact their illness has on their life. It’s hoped that this will help doctors and nurses to make decisions with regards to treatment in the most appropriate way, helping their patients lead as full and active lives as possible.

The CAT was designed to:

Help people with COPD to express themselves to those responsible for treating them

Enable people with COPD and their doctor or nurse to gain a common understanding of what effect the illness has on everyday life

Work with other assessments, to give a more complete picture of how COPD affects a person’s life

Help people with COPD lead as full and active lives as possible

Provide insight into how a person’s health changes over time
